B1 Intensive German Program in Leipzig, Germany

The focus of this program is an intensive, intermediate German language class which is intended to bring learners toward the B1-level in all areas of communicative and intercultural competence. This includes speaking, listening, reading and writing. Like the intermediate courses offered at UF, the courses offered abroad will take a communicative approach to learning about the German language and cultural aspects of the German-speaking world. Students will engage with a variety of authentic texts and materials, complete written and oral portfolio tasks, keep a reflective journal on intercultural learning experiences, give presentations, and participate in a variety of cultural activities and experiential learning opportunities.

Course Information

Students who have completed two semesters of university-level German or the equivalent will enroll in GER 2270. Students who have completed the third or fourth semester German course at UF or the equivalent will enroll in GER 3470.

GER 2270: Intermediate German Abroad (6 credits)
OR
GER 3470: Advanced German Abroad (6 credits)

Total Number of Credits Offered: 6 UF GPA

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open to all majors
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must be in good standing

Location

Leipzig, Germany is a vibrant university city offering a rich cultural, musical, and architectural history as wells as a variety of academic institutions.

Excursions

Program excursions will include various homework activities such as visiting museums, libraries, doing neighborhood scavenger hunts, etc.; visits to various NGOs and other institutions; and planned cultural excursions to theater, opera, automobile industry, and/or soccer/sporting events. There will also be a group excursion to Berlin with a scheduled tour of the Reichstag and a boat ride & a group excursion to Dresden with visits to museums such as the Green Vault.

Housing

Students will share rooms in a hostel for the duration of the program.

Financial Aid

Most financial aid that you would receive on campus can be applied toward the cost of this program. However, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Aid & Scholarships
