Study Abroad Scholarships

LLC students are eligible for a number of study abroad scholarships.  Students planning to apply for financial assistance with study abroad should be sure to consult with the appropriate advisor at the International Center (UFIC) to learn more about UF’s study abroad scholarship options.

Alice M. Zirger Memorial Scholarship for Asian Studies

The following items constitute the application:

  • A current original official transcript from the UF Office of the University Registrar (not printed from ONE.UF). Please break the seal and scan it.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation–one from a faculty member outside Asian Studies. Please ask your recommenders to submit the letter to Prof. Elinore Frensh by email at efresh@ufl.edu.
    *NOTE: All students requesting recommendation letters must complete the UF Release for Letter of Recommendation form and provide the form to each recommender. You can find the form at http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/pdf/ferparelease.pdf. 
  • A 2-page typed in 12-font, double-spaced essay stating the candidate’s reasons for pursuing a major/minor in East Asian Studies and how the student intends to use the scholarship.
    The deadline for the application is Friday, March 1, 2024 by 5 pm. The notification of selection will be sent by e-mail. The successful applicant will be expected to attend a reception in his/her honor at the end of the spring semester (date TBA). Chinese Studies Scholarships

General Language Study Scholarships:

  • John P. and Sydney L. Welsh Scholarship – for students majoring in a degree within the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need to an LLC major in good standing.
